“Gentoo penguins are big climate change winners in the Antarctic,” Heather Lynch told me. Conversely, the more flexible gentoo penguins keep moving farther and farther south, chasing new prey, and even abandoning nests to increase the odds of long-term survival. Julian Quinones/CNNThe gentoo population has exploded by as much as 30,000% in just a few years. Bill Weir/CNNHere lieth the lesson of the camel and the gentoo: Heat will move us, one way or another. I just know River won’t be satisfied without a magic plot twist that somehow saves all creatures great and small.

36 Hours in Marrakesh, Morocco

Leave Jemaa el Fna — the huge, chaotic, carnivalesque marketplace seen on every postcard — to the cobra charmers, hustlers and package-tour throngs. In the early 20th century, Thami el Glaoui, the onetime ruler of Marrakesh — known as the bacha in local Arabic — was a legend. The Islamic decorative arts find dazzling expression inside the Medersa Ben Youssef, a centuries-old religious school adorned with some of the finest craftsmanship in Morocco. Follow the buttery scent of leather to a passage called Derb el Hammam in Souk Smata, the leatherworking area of the medina. Sunlight filters through the overhead slats of the stalls, illuminating belts, bags, jackets, ottomans and slippers known as babouches — a favorite Morocco souvenir (prepare to haggle).

‘Zoomers’ Review: Just Don’t Kill the Vibes

It’s immediately clear that the 30-something Gasda, whose 2022 play “Dimes Square” captured the crowd of artists, writers and scenesters in New York City’s downtown, has spent significant time observing his younger subjects. With the exception of a few awkward phrases, his naturalistic play captures the way Gen Z talks. “Zoomers” opens with three roommates ambling around their Brooklyn apartment in Bushwick, a land where shaggy hair is a personality trait and hard kombucha might as well be on tap. Michael (Jonah O’Hara-David), Jacob (Henry Lynch), and Jada (Reneé-Nicole Powell) are recovering from a night of respective drinking, smoking weed and existential dread. For the emotionally stunted Jacob in particular, it’s a pleasurable escape whenever conversations get too heated.

The fact that Trump’s team seemed at best ambivalent over what anyone else could clearly see would be a shocking abuse of power was not one of those far-fetched hypotheticals put forth in the law to frame an argument. And it resonated because Trump is once again sending very clear signals that he endorses and even encourages political violence to support his cause. Trump’s adamant refusal to reject political violence strongly suggests that his choice of language is a deliberate tactic. But the real impact of the willingness of Trump’s supporters to use violence on his behalf can be seen inside his own Republican Party. As he leaves the door open to political violence, Trump recently sent an email to supporters falsely accusing Biden of a most egregious crime.

CNN —A herd of wild elephants in Malaysia trampled on a car traveling along a major highway after it struck a baby in their group, local authorities said Monday. It had been drizzling and foggy at that time, Gerik Police added, and the car was “negotiating a left bend on the highway” when it hit the baby elephant. Authorities did not provide further updates about the condition of the elephant baby. In 2017, a baby elephant was discovered dead on the side of a highway, apparently killed by a car believed to have been speeding, elephant conservation group Management and Ecology of Malaysian Elephants (MEME) said at the time. In 2020, a distressed adult elephant trampled on a car that had been traveling on the same highway as the latest incident.

CNN —A couple of scaly guests made an unexpected appearance at a Formula One practice session in Singapore on Friday, much to the bemusement of drivers and onlookers. “Hopefully they’ll be going to bed soon.”Minutes later, a second lizard entered the fray, seemingly unbothered by the roaring engines. “Ah, there’s a lizard again on the track, a smaller one this time,” Dutch world champion Max Verstappen exclaimed over the radio. Verstappen was seen swerving to avoid the creature, his second encounter with them on the track since 2016. Water monitors are a large breed of monitor lizard and are a common sight in Singapore’s green spaces and rivers.

More than 888,000 spectators attended the U.S. Open last year, and at least that many are expected this year at an event that is in some ways an annual contrast of culture and class. Many fans will drive there on the crowded parkways and highways adjacent to the stadium. Some will ride the commuter rails from Manhattan, Long Island and New Jersey, and others will squeeze onto the No. “We never lose sight of the fact that we are in a public park,” said Daniel Zausner, the National Tennis Center’s chief operating officer. “We want to be a bigger player in the community, always.”

The Beauty of a ‘Walk and Talk’

Note: As the smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to cover parts of the U.S., it may be unhealthy to walk outside. If you’re in an affected area, please save this advice for later and stay safe. This week, we’re walking and talking, taking a stroll with someone — a friend, a family member, a neighbor or a partner — to deepen our sense of connection. The exchanges seemed to flow more easily, as if our steps were setting the tempo for our speech. But there may be a simpler reason that walks draw people out: Research shows that it can be less stressful to talk to someone when you’re walking side by side, with minimal eye contact, than conversing face to face.

3 p.m. Take the stage at the “mother church of country music”You may already know the Ryman Auditorium , the former home of the weekly Grand Ole Opry showcase. For $35, the Ryman’s self-guided tour lets you explore this history and more by ambling through exhibits on two levels. (Displays include Johnny Cash’s surprising pre-“Man in Black” white suit.) The tour starts with an immersive video and ends with a photo opportunity to mug with a microphone onstage, which makes for very interesting people-watching. More short films of the Ryman’s history are narrated by country stars like Emmylou Harris, Marty Stuart and Ricky Skaggs.

My final verdict is that the Walmart metaverse is not for me. There's an incredible amount of freedom to explore these virtual worlds at your own pace. Yet that left me ambling aimlessly from one virtual stone pathway to another. I could feel my eyes glazing over as I neared my third hour in the metaverse.
